This study explores the theoretical and methodological foundations of contemporary parasitic architecture with the aim of consolidating a scientific basis, based on the systematization carried out, that allows for the support, understanding, and promotion of sustainable and socially inclusive housing solutions for architectural design in the urban context of vulnerable social housing in multifamily buildings in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. It constitutes a partial result of the FCI project “Development of Parasitic Architecture Prototypes for the Improvement of Social Housing in Multifamily Buildings in Guayaquil,” based on an exhaustive review of recent scientific literature. The theoretical methods employed allowed for the identification of the main contributions and limitations of different approaches and models of parasitic architecture. The results presented offer a transformative perspective for the research project and for future research in architecture and urban planning that promotes resilient, sustainable, and adaptive solutions.
