Citizenship formation in Higher Education is the focus of this work. Some theoretical aspects of the aforementioned formation exposed, among which are the categories citizenship, formation and education. On this basis, the author provides his own definition. It emphasized that the intention to form professionals must enriched with the purpose of forming citizens and human beings with better qualities; one of them is to be willing and prepared to transform the world for the benefit of humanity. The contents and tasks of citizenship formation in Higher Education conceived as a complex process, as an expression of society and in correspondence with the social responsibility that Higher Education has at all times. Some characteristics of citizenship formation when it is a subject and when it exists as a task of teaching, scientific research and university extension presented. The need to broaden citizenship formation, to deepen it and improve it conceived as a priority task. From this perspective, it can see that such training is a way to activate people in society and to attack indifference. On this basis, we speak of practical sensitivity. José Martí's letters, particularly those he wrote in 1895, are shown as a way to stimulate practical sensitivity, because in them Martí, through the integration of reason and feelings, incites transformative action.
